Dorking RUFC U15s Bake Sale

By Catherine Armitage

My fundraising page for the MND Association

in 2023, Dorking RUFC U15s went on tour to Bath and were greeted at the ground by retired England, Leicester and Bath rugby player, Lewis Moody. Lewis, who has two sons and continues to coach Youth Rugby, could not have been more welcoming, chatting to the boys, signing shirts and wishing them well in their rugby careers.

It was with great sadness we learnt of Lewis' recent diagnosis with motor neurone disease (MND) when he made the announcement in September.  We wanted to show our support and raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association, because we want to help beat MND.

MND is a rapidly progressing disease that attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Currently there is no cure. We want to help the MND Association to achieve their vision; a world free from MND. We would love your support, every penny counts.

We will be holding a Bake Sale on Sunday 16th November when both our squads play their final competitive league fixtures at Dorking Big Field. Each item £2 with a 3 for £5 deal. Please bring cash on the day, but if you are unable to please consider donating here for this amazing cause.

£120 could provide an overbed table, making it easier for someone with MND to eat, drink and read safely and comfortably in bed.

£250 could pay for a person with MND to download their banked voice, allowing to continue communicating with loved ones.

£600 could provide a child affected by MND with eight professional counselling sessions, giving them the support they need.

£700 could fund the costs of lab equipment and consumables used by a PhD research student for one month.
